Product Description
Areyvut, a New York based non-profit organization, has just published an innovative new 2005 desk calendar entitled A Kindness a Day: 365 Ways to Make a Difference. It has the potential to significantly change the world. The calendar, released in a spiral-bound, one page per day format, offers a concrete suggestion for an act of kindness on each page, as well as a quote from a traditional Jewish source connected to the suggestion. It includes the date from the Jewish and secular calendars and both Jewish holidays and US legal holidays. According to Areyvut's founder and director, Daniel Rothner, the goal of the calendar is to be a force for good in these troubled times. "Kindness is infectious" Rothner says. "You never know the effect that a single kind word or deed can produce. If you make one person's day a little better, that person may go on his way and do something nice for someone else, and onwards in a domino effect that can literally change the entire world." Areyvut, founded in September 2002, has made these noble aspirations its goal from the very start. The organization works to enhance the knowledge and practice of the Jewish concepts of chesed (kindness), tzedakah (charity) and tikkun olam (social justice) by working with educational leaders and institutions on curricula and various projects. Areyvut also strives to enhance students' bar or bat mitzvah celebrations by meeting with them individually and designing a special social action program for each student to get involved in.
